New security feature coming to UBC Library public workstations

By Anna Moorhouse on September 28, 2023

library service update

On October 3rd, 2023, UBC Library is instituting a logout timer on all library public workstations as an added security measure for library users. This new measure will be rolled out to all public workstations at UBC Vancouver library locations.

How it works

UBC Library workstations require users to log in using their Campus-Wide Login (CWL) or an OpenAthens account. After a user logs in to a workstation, a timeout will occur if there is no activity for five minutes. At timeout, the screen will lock and a re-authentication dialog will be displayed. The user can re-authenticate to resume their logged-in session.

If there is no activity for five minutes and the user does not log back in for an additional 15 minutes, the workstation will be automatically rebooted.
