The Punk & Performance Exhibit is running until December 29th so make sure you carve out some time to check it out on the 2nd floor of Irving K. Barber Learning Centre. Viewers will learn about the historical and continued use of the Long Play (LP) format and its accompanying ephemera as a rich source of musical, artistic and social information for researchers.
When interacting with the exhibition, viewers are asked to think about elements that make LP’s a unique source of research and inquiry. Liner notes, cover at and additional ephemera that accompany LP’s are highlighted and allow viewers to glean information about the musicians and artists on display, and also think about these materials as a record of cultural thought at the time of production. There will be opportunities for viewers to engage with the exhibition by listening to some of the performances on their devices through QR codes.
While Punk & Performance focuses on Vancouver and Canada from the 70s onwards, the viewer is invited to imagine what might be uncovered in an exploration of UBC Library’s 140,000 plus LP holdings.
