UBC Library subscription to Refworks will end on September 30

By Library Communications on September 1, 2022

UBC Library has made the decision earlier this year to end the subscription to the RefWorks citation management software as of September 30, 2022. As a reminder, all users of the Legacy or ProQuest RefWorks will have to transfer their references to another citation management tool before September 30, 2022.

We recognize that this change will impact current RefWorks users, and have support in place to make the transition as smooth as possible. The RefWorks Transition guide provides instructions for migrating references to Zotero and Mendeley, and answers to questions you may have. UBC Library Research Commons offers regularly scheduled workshops on both tools, and you can book a consultation to receive individual help. You can also check out this Migration Guide to get started.

This decision was made after a thorough evaluation that included a survey of RefWorks users and an analysis of usage. The availability of comparable tools, Zotero and Mendeley enables the Library to continue our support for citation management while stewarding limited resources responsibly.

For assistance with migrating to a new tool, please contact research.commons@ubc.ca.

For questions about the decision, please contact refworks.transition@ubc.ca.
