UBC Library Vancouver, UBC Okanagan Library, the UBC Learning Exchange and Iron Dog Books are collaborating on a book drive to collect a variety of Black literature to support the Vancouver Black Library (VBL). Spearheaded by UBC student Maya Preyshon, the VBL is a space to sign out books for free and a “study space, a chill space, and a safe space” catering to the needs of the Black community as well as addressing the issue of a lack of community in Vancouver.
UBC Library will host drop-off sites at both campuses. UBC students, faculty and staff are invited to drop off book donations to:
- Koerner Library (Level 3)
- UBC Okanagan Library Service Desk (3287 University Way, Kelowna, BC)
- UBC Learning Exchange (612 Main St, Vancouver, BC)
- Iron Dog Books (2671 E Hastings St, Vancouver, BC)
The donation campaign will be from April 1-30. All genres and any condition of books are welcome, though the VBL does have a wish list.
