The HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS), put in place in July 2020 to provide UBC Library faculty, students and other researchers remote access to print materials that were restricted during the COVID-19 outbreak, will be deactivated Monday, August 23, 2021.
The deactivation of HathiTrust ETAS means that users will no longer have digital temporary access to the nearly 750,000 digitized items from UBC Library’s print collections through HathiTrust. Users will continue to have access to more than 6.7 million public domain and Creative Commons-licensed works in the HathiTrust Digital Library.
“The HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service has been critical in enabling UBC students, faculty and staff to continue teaching, working and learning remotely over the past year while access to our physical collections has been limited,” says Sheldon Armstrong, UBC Library’s Associate University Librarian, Collections. “Since July 2020, more than 10,000 items have been accessed and more than 4,000 items have been renewed by UBC Library patrons through this service.” Learn more about UBC Library’s participating in the HathiTrust ETAS during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The library continues to work with faculty to make course materials available online and to source electronic versions of print materials for the Library Online Course Reserves system, integrated with Canvas. Appropriate copyright considerations and licensing permissions will be applied to all requests. Questions can be directed to ask.library.ubc.ca.
