April 28 to May 2 marks the start of Preservation Week at UBC Library. Created by the American Library Association (ALA) in 2010, Preservation Week aims to highlight what we can do – individually and together – to preserve our personal and shared collections.
The theme of this years week is “Pass it on,” which emphasizes that all collections, from family heirlooms to library books, need a little love and care to keep them preserved for future generations. As part of Preservation Week, the Library is asking UBC community members to submit stories about their personal collections – family heirlooms, treasured antiques, old photographs and books. What do your collections mean to you?
The Library is also holding a series of events to highlight common issues and questions in preservation. The events range from a webinar on preserving scrapbooks to a talk on various digitization methods at the Library. The full schedule is listed below. The events, which are free and open to the public, are held in the Lillooet Room, Level 3, of the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, unless otherwise specified.
For more information on the events contact Library Communications.
