For the first time ever, the TED Talks – an event that takes place at the Vancouver Convention Centre March 17-21 – will offer live webcasts to accredited secondary schools, universities, libraries and community centres in the Metro Vancouver area (TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks).
UBC will offer live streaming on digital signage. The three digital screens on the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre (IKBLC)’s main floor (Level 2) will serve as the official TED Talks screening site for UBC faculty, staff and students.
Designated seating close to the digital screens will be provided – UBC faculty, staff and students, are invited to view the talks.
This year’s list of TED Talk speakers include astronaut Chris Hadfield, music producer and DJ Mark Ronson, inventor Tim Berners-Lee, architect Moshe Safdie, philanthropists Bill and Melinda Gates, leadership expert Simon Sinek, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, Eat, Pray, Love author Elizabeth Gilbert, musician Imogen Heap and many more.
The program also includes 50+ All Stars (past favourite speakers) who will be providing a mix of short talks and updates.
