As part of UBC’s start an evolution capital campaign, UBC Library has to date raised more than $17 million. During the 2012/13 fiscal year, the Library received more than $2.3 million in donations and gifts-in-kind, which has helped support collections, spaces, services and programs for faculty and students.
Campaign highlights from this year include:
- UBC’s Annual Parents Campaign, which raised nearly $212,000 for technology projects at the Library;
- Support for the B.C. Bibliography and B.C. Historical Newspaper Digitization projects;
- A planned estate gift valued at $1 million for Rare Books and Special Collections (RBSC);
- An addition to the Tremaine Arkley Croquet Collection;
- A partnership between the Library and UBC alum Richard Liu, Head of UBC’s alumni network in China, to host the Wu Han Chi exhibition at the Asian Library in fall 2012 (the exhibition also toured Taiwan);
- The creation of a new award to honour the memory of former UBC University Librarian Basil Stuart-Stubbs, who passed away last May;
- And a celebration launch of the Chung Collection book and documentary, made possible through a grant from Canadian Pacific Railway.
UBC Library aims to raise $25 million by the end of the campaign in 2015. Planned capital projects over the next several years include the redevelopment of Woodward Library, the Asian Library and the Research Commons in Koerner Library, as well as support for the Library’s Digitization Unit, Rare Books and Special Collections and programming.
