How can I learn more about my favourite library branches closing/moving/changing?
For the latest updates, we recommend bookmarking the Library Changes section of the website, following us on the Library Twitter feed (#librarychanges) and on the Library Facebook page.
Will the construction and renovations impact my studies?
Campus construction is planned year-round, and we have made efforts wherever possible to minimize the disruption to faculty, students and staff.
As with previous Library renovations, we will make every effort to relocate computers or move study carrels to alternate areas within the affected buildings and spaces. Physical and digital signage will also provide library users with additional suggestions.
What if I have trouble finding the materials needed for my assignments?
Several of the Library’s materials are being moved and consolidated this academic year. UBC Library is working to ensure that its online catalogue reflects the most current locations for its collections. If a particular collection is in transition, physical signage will redirect users to its new location.
Students are also encouraged to visit Library reference desks for in-person assistance to locate the materials they need.
What level of service can I expect once the changes are complete?
UBC Library will continue to maintain high levels of service in all areas. New multi-service desks in several branches will provide improved access to services, and staff will assist on a broader range of topics – everything from technical support to research assistance.
The Library will continue to provide a variety of high-quality spaces for study and collaboration, as well as technology to support student learning needs. Collections, both print and digital, will continue to be developed to meet the research, teaching and learning needs of the UBC community.
